GRIOT STUDIO

A studio that moves across forms
Griot began with photography and books. It grew because one form kept opening onto another. Images became publications. Publications informed objects. Making the objects raised new questions about use, price, circulation, and memory.
Griot Studio is the company and working practice that holds those movements together. The Griot Book Series is authored work within the larger Griot world. They are related, but they are not the same thing.
The forms have different jobs
Studio develops and produces work. Press handles editing, publication, context, and circulation. Market gives objects a route into use and exchange.
I need those parts to speak to one another without collapsing into one name for everything. Each form carries a different responsibility.
Against forced separability
I keep coming back to the same frustration: contemporary culture separates things that are alive together. Image from object. History from the future. Beauty from use. Making from responsibility.
Griot is my way of working against that split. Care is not added after the structure is built. It is the core and fabric of the structure.
