Built as objects

PIN-UP is an independent magazine about architecture and design. For Issue 37, I assisted artist Silvia Prada with the art and technical direction of a nine-cover series.

We built each cover as a physical assemblage. Real carved wood blocks replaced the masthead PIN-UP normally typesets. Because the blocks were placed by hand, the title shifted slightly from cover to cover.

One rig, nine covers

I helped build a repeatable camera rig and capture process for the full series. Apple provided the team with the newly released iPhone 16 Pro Max, which we used to photograph every assemblage.

We locked the camera position, framing, and light so the materials and composition could change without breaking the connection between the nine images.

The result was an experimental cover system that felt handmade without losing the precision of a magazine identity.
